As The Blaze reported, Disney’s “Lightyear” movie was a financial flop at the box office after several woke controversies including a lesbian kissing scene. Although expectations were high for the latest movie in the “Toy Story” franchise, the film garnered only a disappointing $51.7 million in its first weekend in the U.S.
The disappointing start came after controversy over Disney’s decision to include a brief kiss between a lesbian couple in the movie and to replace the conservative star Tim Allen with Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear.
Employees at Pixar Animation Studios demanded a same-sex kissing scene be restored in the movie after it was removed to pacify their outrage at Florida’s Parental Rights in Education legislation. The studio did restore the scene, which resulted in 14 Asian and Middle Eastern nations banning the film.
The 14 countries– Malaysia, The UAE, Indonesia, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Syria and Iraq- all barred citizens from seeing the film due to the kiss between a same-sex couple.
Right-wing personality Nick Adams and twitter extraordinaire outlined his perspective when he wrote.
“Do NOT take your children to see Lightyear, it is 100 percent woke!” he told his 310,600 followers. “I will go to the theater to watch the anti-woke Top Gun 2 movie again before going to see Pixar’s woke Lightyear movie once! This country needs more patriotic movies like Top Gun and fewer woke films like Lightyear!
Disney also faced criticism over ‘Lightyear’ after it replaced Tim Allen, 69, with Marvel superhero Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear. There is growing concern among many that his endorsement of former President Donald Trump and attendance at his inauguration was the root cause of it.
Evans voiced his opinion on the controversies by saying “The real truth is those people are idiots,” said the actor. “[T]here’s always gonna be people who are, ah, afraid and … trying to hold on to what was before,” he added. “But those people die off like dinosaurs.”
With an additional $34.6 million from international markets, the worldwide total intake for Lightyear in its opening weekend is $85.6 million, against its reported budget of $200 million.
