Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has cautioned that there will be “riots in the streets” if former President Donald Trump is prosecuted for storing documents that were classified as “top secret” at his Mar-A-Lago residence.
Graham made the remarks during an interview with Trey Gowdy on Fox News’s Sunday Night in America. “Most Republicans, including me, believe when it comes to Trump, there is no law. It’s all about getting him. There’s a double standard when it comes to Trump,” Graham said.
He added that unrest would come as a result of not only any action taken against Donald Trump, but also as a result of the FBI’s alleged failure to investigate Hunter Biden’s laptop and that no action was taken against Hillary Clinton over her sensitive emails and the Benghazi incident.
Then-FBI director James Comey did refer to Hillary Clinton’s handling of her emails as “extremely careless,” however he opted against pursuing and prosecution.
Alleging a failure by the FBI to investigate Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, Graham added: “I’ll say this, if there’s a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information, after the Clinton debacle … there’ll be riots in the streets.”
Joel Pollak, who is a writer for Breitbart, defended comments made by Graham, stating that the senator was not “threatening violence” and was only “observing that it is a real possibility.”
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre referred to Graham’s comments as “dangerous” during Monday’s press briefing.
Trump stated that he declassified all documents from the Crossfire Hurricane investigation not long before leaving office, however it is not clear if it was those documents that were found during the FBI raid at this stage as the released affidavit was censored.
“The DOJ and FBI are practicing Election Interference at the highest and most dishonest level our Country has ever seen before, both in the Midterms, and the 2024 Presidential Election,” Trump said Sunday on Truth Social.
