CNN host Jim Acosta is known for his humiliation by former President Donald Trump, and his various press secretaries at the White House. Acosta on Sunday got owned again and fact-checked by a National Rifle Association (NRA) member on his own CNN show.
While hosting “CNN Newsroom” on Sunday, Acosta tried to blame the NRA for the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and asked the guest if he believes that NRA has “blood on its hands” because it has pushed for loose gun laws and is supporting the second amendment.
“For years your group has blocked new gun safety laws and pushed for the most relaxed rules possible on firearms,” Acosta said. “Isn’t some of this blood on the NRA’s hands?” he asked the guest, Judge Phillip Journey.
“I’m not the one that pulled the trigger and neither are the members of the National Rifle Association,” Journey responded, noting that the Buffalo, New York, shooting was an example of “the alarms were going off in New York and all the officials did was hit the snooze button” even though the shooter “already threatened a mass shooting prior, and nobody did anything.”
At a later point in this interview, Acosta took shots at the NRA and his favorite subject, President Trump who made an appearance at a recent NRA event and was seen dancing in his usual style.
“Your group is holding a convention in Houston,” Acosta remarked, trying to shame the NRA for hosting this event and inviting President Trump to speak, just after the horrific mass shooting. According to Acosta, holding such an event where people are seen celebrating is “inappropriate”.
Judge Journey immediately snapped back fact-checking Acosta and calling him out for taking President Trump’s dance and the “celebratory” vibe from the event out of context. Adding that President Trump did in fact do a memorable speech and memorial for the victims.
