‘I Can’t Stay Forever’; Fauci Considering Retirement?

Anthony Fauci, the White House Chief Medical Advisor and NIAID Director, has had one of the more prominent roles during the COVID-19 era.

According to an interview with ABC podcast “Start Here”, Fauci just might be stepping back in the near future.

“I have said that I would stay in what I’m doing until we get out of the pandemic phase and I think we might be there already.

Fauci continues when asked directly about thoughts of retirement: “I certainly have, because I have to do it some time. I can’t stay at this job forever, unless my staff find me slumped over at my desk one day. I’d rather not do that.”

If he does choose to retire, Fauci will be quite set off financially. Forbes recently reported that the 81-year-old will have the highest-ever government retirement package in US history.

“Our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com estimate Dr. Fauci’s annual retirement would exceed $350,000. Thereafter, his pension and benefits would continue to increase through annual cost-of-living adjustments,” Forbes wrote.

So how much exactly did he make over the past couple years?

Fauci racked up $434,312 in 2020 and $417,608 in 2019, effectively earning more than the president and roughly 4.3 million of his colleagues.
