Disney has long been a cultural landmark in the state of Florida, but this year they took it to the next level sticking their necks in the political sphere making extreme stances on highly publicized societal issues.
In doing so Disney has seen their stock tank, costing them billions of dollars due to conservative consumers around the nation saying no to the woke narrative Disney has been portraying. An even bigger hit to the company was the Florida legislature voting to remove Disney’s special privilege’s.
Now that Disney is seeing the results of their questionable “woke” agenda come to light they are looking for a scapegoat, a single person to take the blame for the entire company’s misstep.
Two of the big players in Disney’s organization that led the company to it’s present narrative, current CEO Bob Chapek and former CEO Bob Iger are attempting to throw to blame to someone else. Rather than own up to the mistakes they installed the two are lashing out at Disney’s Head of Corporate Affairs Geoff Morrell. He was fired in attempts to lessen the lash out Disney is receiving from Americans and it seems they think simply firing one foolish executive will get the wolves off their back.
Deadline reported on the situation saying, “the hope at the highest level is that Morrell’s removal and the new reorganization will allow the media giant to come out from underneath the falling debris of the current situation.”
But current CEO Chapek made this statement to the company about his stance on the situation:
Thank you to all who have reached out to me sharing your pain, frustration and sadness over the company’s response to the Florida “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Speaking to you, reading your messages, and meeting with you have helped me better understand how painful our silence was. It is clear that this is not just an issue about a bill in Florida, but instead yet another challenge to basic human rights. You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down. I am sorry.
While there has been severe blow back on behalf the company’s new “woke” agenda, Chapek’s statement to employees presents that it won’t change.
